Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - LaGrange opened the 2014-15 season with a 104-100 overtime win against College of Faith at the Black Tie Classic on Saturday.
Braxton Ford led the Panthers with a career-high 25 points. Ford was 6-of-9 from the floor, including making four 3s. He was a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line.
Fellow Mike White set career bests with a double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds. Nick MTitchell also had 18 points.
The Panthers, who led Division III in free throws made and attempted last season, were 32-of-40 at the line. Faith was 14-of-28 shooting free throws.
LaGrange trailed 42-37 at halftime. Faith jumped out to a 15-point lead, 54-39, in the opening two minutes of the second half.
Adolphus Ford made 1-of-2 free throws to tie the game at 90 with a minute left in regulation. Ford followed with a trey to put the Panthers ahead 93-90.
Faith forced overtime as Mike Campbell, who led all scorers with 33 points, scored off a layup and Tevin Lewis made a free throw to tie the game at 93.
In the overtime, the Panthers never trailed. A pair of free throws from Mitchell and a jumper by Justyn Olson put them up 97-93.
Ford sealed the win with two more free throws for the 104-100 final.
The Panthers face tournament host Birmingham-Southern on Sunday.
