Box Score 2 LaGrange bounced back from a first game loss to split a doubleheader with Covenant on Saturday in Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field. The Panthers (21-19) won 12-4 after the Scots (15-12) took the first game 3-1.
Kenneth Strack (5-2) pitched seven strong innings, allowing two runs, not walking a batter and striking out four. Strack was backed by a 16-hit attack as the Panthers tied their season high for runs.
Josh Shiver went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs. Miles Lee had three hits and two RBIs. James Hall, Brent Kinsey and Cody Muren each had two hits. Hall and Muren each had a double included in their hits.
The Panthers spotted the Scots a first inning run. They came back with a five-run second inning to take the lead for good.
In the inning; Shiver, Lee and Muren all had run-scoring singles. Anthony Iannetta had an RBI double, while Kinsey drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
The Panthers built their lead with a run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Shiver had his second RBI in the fifth and Hall doubled in a run in the sixth.
The Panthers closed out their scoring with two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. Lee and Shiver capped their games with run-scoring hits in the eighth.
Josh Bricker followed Strack in the eighth inning, allowing two runs on three hits. Matt Steele pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.
In the first game, Robby Williams (3-4) pitched eight innings in taking the loss. He allowed the three runs, only two were earned, walked one and struck out three. Gage Mooney finished the game with a scoreless inning of relief in the ninth.
The Panthers were held to four hits in the game. Iannetta had two of the hits, while Shiver and Jon Brock had a base hit each.
The two teams traded runs in the third inning. K.C. Simons' sacrifice fly put the Scots up 1-0. The Panthers came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.
Shiver and Iannetta kept the inning going back-to-back singles with two outs. Shiver came around to score when Kinsey's short fly ball to left was dropped for an error.
The Scots answered with two runs in the fourth to go up 3-1. Garrett Kriston (4-2) made the lead stand up as went the distance to get the win.
The Panthers host Emory on Monday at 7 p.m.
