Box Score LaGrange ran its winning streak to three with a 7-3 non-conference win Wednesday over Wabash in Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field. The Panthers improved to 7-8 on the season, while the Little Giants fell to 2-3.
The Panthers used a five-run fourth inning to set a season-high for runs. They had 11 hits in the game, with Josh Shiver leading the way with three hits and three RBIs.
Shiver also stole three bases. The Panthers had six stolen bases in the game, the most since stealing the same against Maryville on March 25 of last year.
Kenny Strack (3-2) went six innings to get the win. He surrendered three runs, two earned, while allowing five hits. Strack struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Henry Jacobs followed Strack with two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out two. Tyler Brooks closed out the game by striking out the side in the ninth.
Wabash got an unearned run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Panthers tied the game with a run in the third. Brent Kinsey walked, stole second, moved over to third on a fly out and scored on a single by Shiver.
Blake Schuck started the Panthers' big fourth inning with a hustling double. Brandon Espinosa followed with a double down the left field line to score Schuck with the first run of the inning.
Jon Brock and Brandon Key drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Brent Kinsey singled to deep short to drive in Espinsoa. Shiver drove in two more runs with a single and Cody Muren's RBI single pushed the Panthers' lead to 6-1.
The Little Giants trimmed the Panthers' lead to three runs, 6-3, with a run in the fifth inning and another in the sixth. The Panthers got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on Keith Sims' pinch-hit single.
The Panthers host fifth-ranked Christopher Newport in the first game of a USA South series Friday at 7 p.m. The two teams will also play Saturday and Sunday, with both days beginning at 2 p.m.
