Box Score FERRUM, Va. - LaGrange downed Ferrum 6-3 on the road Friday night in the first game of a USA South weekend series. The two teams will close out the series with a doubleheader Saturday.
The win was the Panthers eighth in the last 10 games. They improved to 11-9 overall and 9-7 in the USA South standings.
Robby Williams (1-2) pitched six innings to get his first win of the season. Williams allowed three runs, only two were earned, and scattered six hits.
Kenneth Strack threw three scoreless innings of relief to pick up his first save. Strack allowed two hits, walked one and struck out three.
The Panthers erased a 1-0 Ferrum lead with three runs in the third inning. Blake Schuck reached on an error to start the inning and one out later Keith Sims walked.
Brent Kinsey's fly ball to center field was misplayed for a three-base error as both Schuck and Sims came around to score. Josh Shiver's infield hit scored Kinsey to put the Panthers up 3-1.
The host Panthers tied the game with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. LaGrange came right back with three runs in the top of the fifth.
The Panthers loaded the bases with no outs on hits by Sims and Shiver sandwiched around a walk to Kinsey. Sims scored the first run of the inning as Cody Muren reached on an error.
Kyle Nerbonne followed with a fly out to left field that was deep enough for Kinsey to score. James Hall's bunt single brought in Shiver to give the Panthers a 6-3 cushion.
The Panthers finished with 10 hits. Sims, Kinsey, Shiver and Hall each had two hits. Sims and Kinsey each scored two runs.
