Box Score James Hall's walk-off base hit in the 10th inning gave LaGrange a 5-4 win over Methodist on Saturday in Williamson Stadium at Cleavland Field. The win was the second straight for the Panthers over the Monarchs.
Hall's base hit capped a rally for the Panthers (2-1, 2-0 USA South) as they overcame a two-run deficit to send the game into extra innings. The Panthers took advantage of two errors in the 10th by the Monarchs (2-2, 0-2 USA South).
Linwood Roberds reached on an error to lead off the inning and moved up as Miles Lee reached on a fielder's choice. With one out, both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Anthony Iannetta was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Hall followed with a base hit inside the third base line to score Roberds with the winning run. The senior had two hits in the game and has five in the past two games to go with four RBIs.
The Panthers finished with 11 hits. Blake Schuck had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Cody Muren had two hits and two RBIs, while Kyle Nerbonne had two hits.
Schuck's double gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Methodist tied the game in the third but the Panthers regained the lead in the fifth when Schuck scored on a fielder's choice.
The Monarchs tied the game again off Panther starter Robby Williams. The Monarchs took a 4-2 lead in the seventh with a pair of runs off reliever Kenneth Strack.
The Panthers got a run back in their half of the seventh on Muren's RBI single. They tied the game in the eighth when Schuck's base hit score pinch-runner Keith Sims.
Williams allowed one earned run in 5-1/3 innings. Gage Mooney followed Strack with 1-2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Schuck got the win with two shutout innings. He struck out the side in the top of the 10th.
The two teams finish their three-game series Sunday. Game time is 1 p.m.
