Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Va. - LaGrange got outstanding starting pitching from seniors Robby Williams and Drew Williamson in a doubleheader against Averett on Monday but the host Cougars won 1-0 in 10 innings in the first game and 2-1 in the second game.
Williams threw eight shutout innings in the first game. He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out five. He was backed up defensively as the Panthers turned three double plays in the game.
Blake Schuck (1-1) relieved Williams in the ninth inning. He allowed the one run on four hits, walked one and struck out one.
Averett got the winning run off Schuck in their half of the 10th. The Cougars loaded the bases with no outs and Andrew Kirks got the game-winning hit.
At the plate Schuck was one of three Panthers with two hits each in the game. Brent Kinsey and Jim Reed joined Schuck with two singles each.
In the second game, Williamson allowed an unearned run in six innings before giving way to Kenneth Strack (0-2). Strack allowed a run, walked one and struck out two.
The Panthers trailed 1-0 heading into the ninth inning of the second game. Cody Muren led off the inning with a base hit. He moved over to third on two groundouts before scoring the tying run on Josh Shiver's clutch hit.
The Cougars pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Jordan Kidd's hit with two outs gave the Cougars the 2-1 win.
The Panthers host sixth-ranked Birmingham-Southern in Williamson Stadium in Cleaveland Field on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
