Chamberlain Cracks 100 as Softball Splits at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The LaGrange College softball team split their double-header at Piedmont University in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) action on Thursday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex in Demorest, Georgia. The Panthers run their record to 10-18 with a 5-3 record in league play.

GAME 1 – LAGRANGE 0, PIEDMONT 3
  • LaGrange senior pitcher Claire Chamberlain (Rome, Ga.) pitched one of her best games of the season, allowing just three earned runs in six innings and striking out four Lions.
  • Piedmont picked up one run in the bottom of the first off of an RBI single from Valerie Bailey. They picked up two more in the bottom of the third with RBI hits from Mandi Peretti and Anslee Saunchegraw.
  • The Panthers managed four hits in the opener, with Chamberlain, freshman shortstop Kamie Gibby (McDonough, Ga.), junior second baseman Hannah Barnett (Douglasville, Ga.) and sophomore centerfielder Addi Grace Dennis (Grayson, Ga.) all cracking the column.
GAME 2 – LAGRANGE 4, PIEDMONT 2
  • LaGrange senior pitcher Jenna Yeary (Loganville, Ga.) got the call in game two, going seven innings and allowing just two earned runs.
  • Down 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Gibby stepped to the plate with one on and no outs and ripped a double to plate sophomore third baseman Cannon Ramsey (Tallahassee, Fla.).
  • Still trailing 2-1 in the top of the seventh and with LaGrange down to their last two outs, Gibby stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. The rookie reached on a single, scoring Chamberlain and tying the game for the Panthers. On the very next at-bat, sophomore designated player Emma Seymour (Carrollton, Ga.) reached first on an error, allowing Barnett to score as LaGrange took their first lead of the day, 3-2. Finally, Yeary reached on an RBI fielder's choice, plating Ramsey.
  • As part of their seventh inning rally, Chamberlain stepped to the plate and singled for her third hit of the game and fourth of the day. With those hits Chamberlain has reached the one hundred career hit plateau for her career.
