LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College softball team won both ends of their double-header against visiting Wesleyan College in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) action on Saturday at the LC Softball Complex in LaGrange, Georgia, prevailing 10-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two. The Panthers run their record to 12-18 and 7-3 in CCS action. It is the first time in school history LaGrange has been 7-3 in CCS conference play.
GAME 1 – WESLEYAN 0, LAGRANGE 10
- The Panthers dominated the first game. Up 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth, junior second baseman Hannah Barnett (Douglasville, Ga.) stepped to the plate with one out and the bases loaded had the biggest hit of her career with a three-RBI double to give the Panthers a walk-off win via the mercy rule.
- Barnett finished with four RBI – a career-high – along with her first career triple.
- Senior pitcher Claire Chamberlain (Rome, Ga.) went two-for-three at the plate with two RBI while producing a gem on the mound with five strikeouts and no runs allowed in five innings in a shutout victory.
- Freshman shortstop Kamie Gibby (McDonough, Ga.) went two-for-two with a two-RBI double. Sophomore designated player Kayla Helms (Dallas, Ga.) also had two hits with a run scored.
GAME 2 – WESLEYAN 0, LAGRANGE 8
- In the bottom of the second of game two, sophomore centerfielder Addi Grace Dennis (Grayson, Ga.) hit a three-RBI triple to right center to put the Panthers up 3-0, later scoring off a passed ball.
- In the bottom of the third, freshman left fielder Bri Totty (Hurtsboro, Ala.) hit a two-RBI single to right center to score Gibby as LaGrange went up 6-0.
- Barnett scored off an error in the bottom of the fourth, then an RBI-double by Gibby gave the Panthers an 8-0 lead, good enough to shut the Wolves down with a scoreless fifth.
- LaGrange senior pitcher Jenna Yeary (Loganville, Ga.) got the win, striking out five and allowing no runs in five innings.
SENIOR DAY
- Prior to game one, the Panthers and the LaGrange College athletics department took a few moments to recognize their graduating senior class as part of senior day. The senior class of Chamberlain, Yeary, Abby Hefner (Talking Rock, Ga.) and Katelyn Minnihan (Stockbridge, Ga.) have given their all not only on the field, but to the entire LaGrange community as a whole. Although their time on the team may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the Panther family.
