Yeary, Ramsey Power Softball to Split with Maryville

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College softball team split their double-header against visiting Maryville College in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) action on Saturday at the LC Softball Complex in LaGrange, Georgia. Although taking an 11-1 loss in the opener, the Panthers rebounded with a 7-0 shutout in the nightcap, improving their record to 7-17 and 2-2 in CCS play.

GAME 1 – MARYVILLE 11, LAGRANGE 1
  • Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Panthers got on the board when freshman left fielder Bri Totty (Hurtsboro, Ala.) hit an RBI double to left field to drive in junior second baseman Hannah Barnett (Douglasville, Ga.). That was as close as LaGrange would come however, as the Scots added six runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
  • LaGrange senior pitcher Claire Chamberlain (Rome, Ga.) and freshman designated player Addison Gibboney (Kennesaw, Ga.) both went two-for-four at the plate in game one.
GAME 2 – MARYVILLE 0, LAGRANGE 7
  • LaGrange senior pitcher Jenna Yeary (Loganville, Ga.) dominated game two, allowing just two hits and no walks in a complete game shutout for her fourth win of the season.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore third baseman Cannon Ramsey (Tallahassee, Fla.) stepped to the plate with two on and two out and launched her first career home run over the left field wall to plate Barnett, sophomore center fielder Addi Grace Dennis (Grayson, Ga.) and herself as the Panthers went up 3-0.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the flood gates opened for the Panthers. After a costly error by the Scots prolonged the inning by loading the bases with two outs, Dennis stepped to the plate and hit an RBI infield single to short to score freshman pinch runner Anabelle Sanchez (Marietta, Ga.). On the very next at bat it was Ramsey again doing damage with an RBI infield single to score Totty. Finally, again with the bases loaded, Chamberlain stepped to the plate and reached on an error that allowed Dennis and sophomore first baseman Kayla Helms (Dallas, Ga.) to score to provide all the offense LaGrange needed in an eventual 7-0 victory.
