HOW IT HAPPENED
  • LaGrange junior catcher Nicholas Ford (Canton, Ga.) got the scoring started in the top of the first when he hit a two-RBI double to right field to plate senior shortstop Jackson McElvy (Kennesaw, Ga.) and senior first baseman Curt Bonner (Cartersville, Ga.).
  • In the top of the third it was Ford once again, plating McElvy on a single to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
  • LaGrange freshman second baseman Collin McGhee (Ball Ground, Ga.) hit his first career home run in the top of the fourth on a two-run blast to right as he and freshman outfielder Tanner Morneau (Marietta, Ga.) circled the bases for a 5-0 lead.
  • Up 5-3 in the top of the seventh, senior third baseman Colin Jones (Duluth, Ga.) hit a sacrifice fly to left as McElvy scored his third run of the game. Two batters later, Morneau hit a two RBI single to drive in Bonner and Ford and putting the Panthers up 8-3.
  • In the top of the eighth, Jones drew a bases-load walk to score McElvy to put LaGrange up 9-4.
  • Finally, in the top of the ninth, McElvy's fifth hit of the day drove in graduate leftfielder Jorge Fragoso (East Point, Ga.) to put the Panthers up 10-4.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, the Hawks reeled off seven unanswered runs to win in walk-off fashion.
  • McElvy had a stellar day at the plate, going five-of-six with four runs scored and a stolen base.
  • LaGrange senior pitcher Trystin Merson (Dallas, Ga.) allowed just four earned runs in seven innings with three strikeouts.
