Gettysburg Edges Softball in Non-Conference Action

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College softball team lost both ends of their double-header against visiting Gettysburg College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the LC Softball Complex in LaGrange, Georgia.

GAME 1 – GETTYSBURG 3, LAGRANGE 2
  • Down 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers got on the board when senior first baseman Jenna Yeary (Loganville, Ga.) hit an RBI double to right field to drive in freshman second baseman Addison Gibboney (Kennesaw, Ga.), cutting the lead to two.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, down to their last three outs, junior right fielder Hannah Barnett (Douglasville, Ga.) led off for the Panthers and battled to a ten-pitch walk to give the LC hope. Two batters later, freshman leftfielder Bri Totty (Hurtsboro, Ala.) singled to short right field to put two runners on. After a passed ball, the Panthers suddenly had the tying run in scoring position with one out. Down to their last out, Barnett scored off another passed ball, cutting the lead down to one with the tying runner at third. Sophomore centerfielder Addi Grace Dennis (Grayson, Ga.) stepped to the plate with a chance to tie it, but a groundout to third ended the threat.
  • Senior pitcher Claire Chamberlain (Rome, Ga.) had one of her best games of the season, allowing just three earned runs against one of the top opponents LaGrange has faced this season.
GAME 2 – GETTYSBURG 8, LAGRANGE 3
  • Down 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers held off being eliminated by reeling off three runs. After a bunt single by Dennis loaded the bases with no outs, a passed ball allowed Totty to score from third to get LaGrange on the board. This was followed by an RBI groundout by Chamberlain to plate junior catcher Brooke Coleman (Hiram, Ga.). Finally, an RBI single by sophomore shortstop Cannon Ramsey (Tallahassee, Fla.) gave LaGrange three runs for the game.
  • That was all the Panthers would muster, however, as the Bullets held them off in seven innings.
  • Gibboney pitched in relief, going two-and-two-thirds innings and allowing just one hit and no runs.
  • Ramsey went two-for-four in the game.
UP NEXT
  • LaGrange is back on the field next Friday, March 20th when they open their CCS schedule at home against Covenant College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
