THE BASICS
Score: Piedmont 85, LaGrange 84
Records: Panthers 9-9, 2-5 CCS | Lions 10-9, 1-5 CCS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Panthers led 43-36 at the half only for the Lions to go on a 12-2 run early in the second period to take the lead. LaGrange would trail for most of the duration, pulling to within two off a layup from senior guard Brodie Scott (Athens, Ga.) with 16 seconds left. After a free throw by Brodie pulled them to within three with five seconds remaining, Piedmont sophomore guard Jackson Houston (Suwanee, Ga.) made one of two from the line to ice the game. A buzzer-beating three from senior guard Micah McAllister (Newnan, Ga.) was not enough to close the gap.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- LaGrange junior guard Devin Dowell (LaGrange, Ga.) came off the bench to score 17 points with four rebounds and two steals in 27 minutes.
- LaGrange junior guard Austen Colton (Sharpsburg, Ga.) scored 16 points in just 17 minutes while sophomore forward Kani Rashied-Henry (Tyrone, Ga.) was a force inside with 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks while shooting four-of-seven from the floor.
- Piedmont senior guard Fisher Darden (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) led all scorers with 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Junior guard Israel Hall (Simpsonville, S.C.) finished with 19.
- Three-point shooting proved decisive, as the Lions went 9-of-23 against 4-of-20 for the Panthers.
