SEWANEE, Tenn. – The LaGrange College softball team split their double-header at Sewanee: The University of the South in non-conference action on Friday at Tiger Field in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Panthers fell short to the Tigers in the opener, 4-1, before rebounding for their first win of the season in a 7-1 romp.
GAME 1 – LAGRANGE 1, SEWANEE 4
- LaGrange freshman pitcher Addison Gibboney (Kennesaw, Ga.) opened the scoring in the top of the first of game one with an RBI double down the right field line to plate sophomore shortstop Cannon Ramsey (Tallahassee, Fla.) as the Panthers went up 1-0. It would not be enough, however and the Tigers would answer with four runs in the bottom of the third to eventually take the win.
- LaGrange senior designated player-pitcher Jenna Yeary (Loganville, Ga.) entered the game in relief and pitched three and two-thirds shutout innings with two strikeouts.
GAME 2 – LAGRANGE 7, SEWANEE 1
- In the nightcap, it was again Gibboney in the top of the first driving in the first run of the game, this time with an RBI groundout to drive in Ramsey.
- In the top of the third, the Panthers capitalized on a series of miscues by the Tigers as sophomore centerfielder Addi Grace Dennis (Grayson, Ga.) scored off an error. junior right-fielder Hannah Barnett (Douglasville, Ga.) then scored off a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
- Up 3-1 in the top of the fifth, a pair of errors by the Tigers allowed Ramsey and senior pitcher Claire Chamberlain (Rome, Ga.) to reach home. Gibboney later scored on a delayed steal as the Panthers went up 6-1. Finally a sacrifice fly RBI from freshman pitcher Bri Totty (Hurtsboro, Ala.) drove in junior first baseman Brooke Coleman (Hiram, Ga.) for the final score.
- Totty picked up the win while Chamberlain pitched three shutout innings in relief.

- LaGrange is back on the field on Saturday when they travel to Maryville College for a non-conference double-header.
