Baseball edges #2 Endicott, MUW to cap off LC Classic Sunday

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College baseball team swept their two games against visiting #2 Endicott College and the Mississippi University for Women in non-conference action on Sunday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium in the final day of the LaGrange College Classic. The doubleheader victory was highlighted by graduate outfielder Jorge Fragoso (East Point, Ga.) picking up his career-100th RBI.

THE BASICS
Game 1 - Score:               #2 Endicott 4, LaGrange 7
Game 2 - Score:               MUW 9, LaGrange 15
Records:                           Panthers 6-3 | Gulls 1-2 | Owls 3-4

GAME 1 – #2 ENDICOTT 4, LAGRANGE 7
  • The second-ranked Gulls opened the scoring with a run in the top of the third inning as junior catcher James Benestad (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored on a wild pitch.
  • In the bottom of the third, three Panthers would cross the plate, one via walk and two by HBP to go up 3-1. Redshirt freshman outfielder Matthew Brown's (Marietta, Ga.) 2RBI single would make it 5-1 LC at the end of three.
  • Junior outfielder Ben Hollenbeck (Newnan, Ga.) added another insurance run in the seventh inning as LaGrange enjoyed a 6-1 lead with just six outs standing between them and the major upset.
  • The Gulls began to rally in the top of the eighth as they plated three runs to bring the contest at 7-4 in favor of the Red and Black.
  • Fortunately for the Panthers, a clutch run from freshman Collin McGhee (Ball Ground, Ga.) and shutdown pitching from senior Eli Folds (Cullman, Ala.) insured that they would tab their first win over a ranked opponent in the 2026 campaign.
  • Freshman pitcher Beau Collier (Labelle, Fla.) was credited with the win in the four-strikeout performance to improve his record to 2-0 on the season.
  • Folds earned the save on the mound late for LaGrange.
GAME 2 – MUW 9, LAGRANGE 15
  • MUW opened the offensive showcase with a solo homer by senior Matthew Windham (Calera, Ala.) to put the Owls up 1-0.
  • Senior third baseman Colin Jones (Duluth, Ga.) was determined to make an impact on his birthday as he laid down RBI doubles in back-to-back innings to put LaGrange up 2-1 after three.
  • Windham would have an answer in the top of the fourth as he lasered an RBI single into left field to knot things up at two-apiece.
  • Both teams continued to trade blows as LC held a 7-4 lead with three innings left to play.
  • JJ Fragoso laid down his career-100th RBI in the top of the seventh inning to put LaGrange up 8-5. Two more Panthers would score before Jones rifled another double to extend the Panther lead to 12-5 after seven.
  • The Owls attempted to rally, bringing home five runs in the eighth, but could not keep pace with the Red and Black as McGhee and freshman shortstop Michael DeFrancisco (Winder, Ga.) added the insurance runs to secure the good guys' 15-9 win, their sixth of the season.
  • Redshirt freshman pitcher Blake Myers (Ball Ground, Ga.) was credited with the win and freshman Brandon Bennett (LaGrange, Ga.) earned the save.
