JACKSON, Miss. - The LaGrange College women's basketball team lost 75-70 at Belhaven University in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) action on Tuesday afternoon at Rugg Arena in Jackson, Mississippi.
THE BASICS
Score: LaGrange 70, Belhaven 75
Records: Panthers 7-6, 3-1 CCS | Blazers 10-1, 3-0 CCS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was all LC as they looked to hand the host Blazers just their second loss of the season, leading 25-20 at the end of one.
- Things slowed down tremendously in the second frame as the Panthers held a 36-30 lead heading into the half.
- It looked as if the Red and Black were set to run away with the contest, as Laila Battle (Smyrna, Ga.) and Annika Bonds (Athens, Ga.) drained back-to-back three's to extend the advantage 11 with just under seven minutes left in the third quarter. Unfortunately, Belhaven still had plenty of fight left in them as they cut the LaGrange lead down to just one with a single quarter left to play.
- The Panthers did all they could to fend off the surging Blazers, retaining their lead up until the final minute of action. Sadly, LC's undefeated conference record would suffer its first loss as BU completed the come-from-behind effort.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Battle led the team offensively with 25 points, well-surpassing the 200-point mark on the season for the Campbell High School product.
- Battle, freshman guard Adazhah Burrell (Melbourne, Fla.) and senior guard Skylar Edwards (Canton, Ga.) each enjoyed an eight-rebound night.
UP NEXT
- LaGrange is back on the court on Tuesday, January 13th when they travel to Huntingdon College for a 6:00 p.m. game.
