LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College men's soccer team won 2-1 against visiting Millsaps College in non-conference action on Sunday at Panther Field in LaGrange, Georgia.
THE BASICS
Score: Millsaps 1, LaGrange 2
Records: Panthers 3-2-5, 0-0-1 CSS | Majors 5-1-2, 0-0 SAA
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Panthers opened up the scoring in the 20th minute when LaGrange senior forward Lucas Duke (Dexter, Ga.) recovered a putback off a sophomore forward Damien Fekete (Columbus, Ga.) shot and put it through for his fifth goal of the season, tying Fekete for the team lead to put the hosts in front.
- The Majors found the equalizer in the 31st minute when Millsaps freshman forward Myles Walden (Fort Mitchell, Ala.) took a pass from sophomore forward Ellis Dykes (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season, knotting the match up at 1-1. That score would hold up going into halftime.
- The second half was hotly contested, defined by physical play under the hot Georgia sun. As the score remained tied entering the final minutes of the games, the Panthers appeared headed to their sixth draw of the season. But with 1:13 remaining, Duke capitalized on a breakdown of the Majors defense to find LaGrange senior forward Dylan Bailey (Marietta, Ga.) who shot and scored for his third goal of the season as the Panthers bench exploded in celebration. The defense held through the final seconds of the game, clinching the win.
SENIOR DAY
- Prior to the game, the Panthers and the LaGrange College athletics department took a few moments to recognize their graduating senior class as part of senior day. The quartet of Bailey, Duke, senior defender Tyler Hudson (Dacula, Ga.) and senior defender Tyler Cunningham (Loganville, Ga.) have given their all not only on the field, but to the entire LaGrange community as a whole. Although their time on the pitch may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the Panther family.
