LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College men's soccer team lost 1-0 to visiting Oglethorpe University in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at Panther Field in LaGrange, Georgia.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was intensely physical with both teams having scoring opportunities snuffed out by some outstanding defense. LaGrange freshman defender Raul Rivero (Duluth, Ga.) made perhaps the best play of the period when he made a team save against Oglethorpe senior midfielder Daniel Gardner (Atlanta, Ga.) off a shot from in the 31st minute to keep the game scoreless. They remained tied going into halftime.
- The Petrels finally broke through in the 62nd minute when Oglethorpe senior defenseman Owen VanMarter (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) took a corner kick and found Gardner who finished with a header to the low center for his first goal of the season as the visitors went ahead 1-0.
- Despite a contentious final 28 minutes of the game, the Panthers were unable to find the equalizer, thus taking their first loss of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- LaGrange sophomore goalkeeper Sawyer Williams (Johns Creek, Ga.) tallied two saves in net for the Panthers.
- Oglethorpe freshman goalkeeper Sebastian Lewis (Roswell, Ga.) finished with two stops for the Petrels, both in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Jack Lowrie (Jasper, Ga.) took over in the second half and had one save.
- Shots on goal were 4-3 in favor of Oglethorpe.
