Panthers Stopped at Berry Women’s Volleyball Invite

ROME, Ga. – The LaGrange College women's volleyball team went 0-for-2 at the Berry College Invitational in non-conference action on Saturday at the Cage Center in Rome, Georgia. Facing the nationally-ranked Eagles of Emory University in their morning match, the Panthers fell in straight sets. Then in the afternoon match against the Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran University, LC went three-and-out. LaGrange runs their record to 2-10 on the season.

LAGRANGE 0, EMORY 3 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9)
  • Facing the sixth-ranked team in the nation, the Panthers gave a good effort led by freshman middle-blocker Kaitlyn Smith (Buckeye, Ariz.) who finished with four kills and one block assist. freshman outside hitter Jasmine Gross (Antioch, Tenn.) added three kills with four digs with a team high .222 hitting percentage.
  • Sophomore libero Isabella Zentkovich (Sharpsburg, Ga.) led the LC defense with seven digs and no reception errors while sophomore setter Julia Damico (North Port, Fla.) added seven digs and nine set assists.
  • Emory junior right-side hitter Sophia Luo (Austin, Tex.) led the Eagles with eleven kills and a .611 hitting percentage.
LAGRANGE 0, TEXAS LUTHERAN 3 (25-8, 25-18, 25-10)
  • Facing the Bulldogs, Smith stood out again with a team-high six kills and a .200 hitting percentage. Damico posted 13 set assists with six digs. Gross chipped in with four kills and four digs.
  • The second set saw the Panthers take a 5-2 lead off the serve of sophomore libero Mamie Martenstein (Mobile Ala.). But the Bulldogs would soon answer with a 7-2 run to surge into the lead. LC was unable to close.
  • Texas Lutheran was led by junior outside hitter Maselina Tuufuli (Saint Hedwig, Tex.) with 11 kills and a .474 hitting percentage.

  • LaGrange is back on the court on Tuesday when they play host to Point University in a 7:00 p.m. match at Mariotti Gymnasium.
