Men's Soccer unable to eek out victory in 2-2 draw with Methodist

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie against visiting Methodist University in non-conference action on Friday afternoon at Panther Field in LaGrange, Georgia.

THE BASICS
Score:                 Methodist 2, LaGrange 2
Records:             Panthers 1-0-3, 0-0-0 CCS | Monarchs 3-1-2, 0-0-0 USA South

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Panthers found themselves on top early in the contest when senior forward Lucas Duke (Dexter, Ga.) capitalized on a mishap in the Monarch's defence with his 19th-career goal in the 18th minute. The Red and Black would hold their 1-nil lead heading into the intermission.
  • LC looked well on its way to victory at the start of the second half as freshman midfielder Jacob Sagstuen (Dacula, Ga.) doubled the Panthers lead in the 49th minute off the assist from Kenny Pameni (Atlanta, Ga.).
  • The match saw a turning point shortly after as the Monarchs responded quickly with a goal from Carson Stretz to cut LC's lead in half 2-1.
  • With the momentum on the other side, the Panthers couldn't quite hold on to their advantage as MU equalized in the 82nd minute with a tic-tac-toe goal capped off by Stretz to make it 2-2.
  • Despite multiple promising chances from both squads to net a game-winner, no such fortune was found as the clock struck double zeros to force the deadlocked result from Panther Field.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • LaGrange sophomore goalkeeper Sawyer Williams (Johns Creek, Ga.) put on a clinic for LC, racking up eight saves against MU's 10 shots on goal.
  • Four different Panthers registered a shot on goal as they enjoyed a 50% shooting percentage on the afternoon.
  • Shot attempts were 14-6 in favor of the Monarchs with a 10-4 advantage in shots-on-goal.
