Nationally-ranked Huntingdon sweeps Panthers in CCS doubleheader

LaGRANGE, Ga. - Ninth-ranked Huntingdon swept a Collegiate Conference of the South doubleheader from LaGrange on Tuesday at the LC Softball Complex. The Hawks (26-3, 9-1 CCS) won the first game 11-0 in five innings, then held off the Panthers' (13-17, 3-5 CCS) rally to take game two 5-3.

Game 1: Huntingdon's Allie Roberts (15-1) threw a no-hitter in the 11-0 win. Roberts came within one out of a perfect game, hitting Cannon Ramsey in the fifth inning. Roberts struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

Huntingdon staked Roberts to a 9-0 lead with five runs in the first inning and four more in the second off LC starter Jenna Yeary (7-4). The Hawks closed out the scoring in the fifth on Amaya Wammock's pinch-hit two-run home run.

Game 2: Huntingdon had to hold off a last inning rally by the Panthers for the 5-3 win to complete the sweep. The Hawks got a two-run home run from Miranda Treadway in the first off Claire Chamberlain (4-10). They added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to carry a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

Zoe Veres started the Panthers' rally with a one-out single and Addi Grace Dennis entered the game as a pinch-runner. With two outs, Ramsey doubled to right field, with Dennis stopping at third. Dennis came home as Kayla Helms reached on an error. Back-to-back RBI singles by Lexi Mitchell and Kenzie Hornsby scored Ramsey and Helms to make it 5-3. Huntingdon starter Madisyn Fruge (5-1) recorded the final out to close out the win.

Up Next: The Panthers host Agnes Scott and Piedmont in CCS doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Both doubleheaders begin at noon. It will be Senior Day on Saturday against Agnes Scott.
