Maryville walks off with Game 2 victory over Panthers

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville walked off with an 8-7 victory over LaGrange on Friday afternoon at Scotland Yard. It was the second straight one-run win for the Scots (27-8, 13-1 CCS) over the Panthers (15-20, 7-7 CCS) in their CCS series.

The host Scots took a 6-5 lead into the ninth inning after scoring two runs in the eighth inning. Mitchell Grannan (5-0) retired the first two Panthers in the top of the ninth. Eli Selby reached on a walk to keep the inning going. Jorge Fragoso followed with a two-run home run to right field to give LC a 7-6 lead. The home run was Fragoso's second in as many games and his fourth of the season.

Maryville came right back in their half of the ninth. The Scots pushed across two runs off relievers Connell White and Nick Morgan to walk off with the 8-7 win.

The Panthers had broken a 1-1 tie earlier in the game with two runs in the third and two more in the fourth. In the third, David Smigelski had an RBI single and Adam Dorn scored on Fragoso's ground. Smigelski had a sacrifice fly and Curt Bonner a run-scoring single in the fourth as the Panthers built a 5-1 lead.

The Scots cut the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth off LC starter Eduardo Peralta. Peralta pitched into the fourth before being relieved by Caden Hare. Peralta gave up three runs, two were earned, while walking six and striking out three. Hare scattered six hits over three innings and surrendered one run.

Jackson McElvy led LC's 13-hit attack with three hits and scored three runs. Smigelski was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Bonner, Dorn, and Collin Jones all had two hits.
