MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville outlasted LaGrange 11-8 on Saturday afternoon to complete a sweep of the CCS weekend series. The loss dropped the Panthers to 15-21 overall and 7-8 in conference play. The Scots improved to 28-8 and 14-1.
Maryville knocked out LC starter
Trystin Merson with an eight-run first inning.
Keller Morey pitched 5-1/3 innings in relief of Merson, allowing three runs.
Parker Copeland pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
LaGrange got on the scoreboard in the second inning.
Eli Selby singled with one out and
Carson Burgamy followed with a double. Selby scored on
Noah Preuer's ground out. The Panthers got two more runs in the third.
Curt Bonner drove in the first run with an infield single and Collin Jones' sacrifice fly brought home
Adam Dorn to make it 8-3.
Trailing 11-3, the Panthers cut the deficit in half with a four-run seventh inning.
Riley George led off with a single, went to third on
Jackson McElvy's double, and scored on Dorn's ground out. Bonner followed with a two-run home run, his sixth of the season. One out later,
Evan Graham capped the inning with his first career home run. Dorn's RBI single in the eighth inning closed out the scoring.
Up Next: The Panthers close out the regular season as they host Huntingdon in a three-game CCS series beginning Thursday. The Panthers will have Senior Day on Saturday.
