LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College Softball Team (12-14, 2-2 Collegiate Conference of the South) was defeated by the Belhaven University Blazers (20-6, 9-1 CCS) in doubleheader action on Saturday (Mar. 29), dropping both games via run-rule in respective five-inning finals of 11-1 and 8-0 from the LC Softball Complex.
Game One Summary
LC mustered three hits in the first game, avoiding the shutout late in the fifth inning after an RBI single from
Alexa Gonzalez.
Zoe Veres and
Jaselyn Couch were also among the three lone Panthers to knock down a hit for the Red and Black in the doubleheader's onset contest.
Claire Chamberlain assumed starting pitching duties for LC, throwing 85 pitches in the circle as she forced the Blazers into three fly outs and six ground outs in 3.1 innings of ball.
Lily Rae Fulford notched the team's only strikeout in 1.2 innings of relief for LC.
Game Two Summary
The Panther bats went cold in game two, dropping the doubleheader's capstone tilt 8-0.
Alexa Gonzalez yielded the only hit for LC in game two.
Jenna Yeary started in the pitcher's circle for LaGrange, dealing 100 pitches for six fly outs and three ground outs.
Maddie Chauvin, who came in for relief for the Panthers, tallied the team's lone strikeout of the game as she retired a swinging Olivia Guindon of Belhaven in the fifth inning to give her squad one last shot to make a comeback.
