Panthers fall on the road at Asbury

WILMORE, Ky. - The LaGrange College Women's Basketball Team (10-9, 4-6 Collegiate Conference of the South) went toe-to-toe with the conference-leading Asbury Eagles (13-7, 10-1 CCS) Friday night (Feb. 7), falling in the final minutes by a score of 68-53 from the Luce Center Gym.

Game Summary
LaGrange overcame a slow start after falling behind 8-0 early, as Laila Battle got things going for her team to eventually tie things up at 16-apiece at the end of one. The back-and-forth affair continued into the second quarter, as the game was deadlocked at 18-18 with seven minutes remaining in the half.

LC grabbed the lead for the first time in the contest, holding a three-point advantage late in the quarter. After a quick offensive burst from Asbury at the end of the half, LaGrange found themselves down by four as the Eagles held a 34-30 lead heading into the intermission.

With plenty left in the Panthers' tank, Zyhia Johnson helped her squad regain the lead at the 3:10 mark in the third quarter with a fastbreak layup. After a nailed three by Britney Chavez, it seemed the Panthers were well on their way to a key win as they led 45-44 heading into the final quarter. Despite a hard fought fourth quarter by LaGrange, however, they were unable to match the host Eagles' late scoring barrage as they fell 68-53.

Panthers of the Game
Kendra Roberts notched her second double-double of the season, with the last one coming against Asbury just a few weeks ago. The senior guard led LC with 16 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

Laila Battle also put together a solid showing, with 13 points and seven rebounds, going 7/9 from the free throw line.
