SHREVEPORT, La. - LaGrange dropped its 2025 season opener to No. 24 Rhodes 12-5 on Saturday at Centenary College. It was also the opener for the Lynx (1-0).
The Panthers banged out 10 hits in the loss.
Curt Bonner and
Fletcher Hislop each had two hits.
David Smigelski had LC's first home run of the second and
Tray Owens had a two-run triple.
Eduardo Peralta started and took the loss for the Panthers. Peralta allowed nine runs in 3-1/3 innings, but only three of the runs were earned. Peralta was followed by
Caden Hare,
Keller Morey,
Chandler Walker,
Hunter Brooks, and
Bryce Stephens.
Rhodes used a big second inning to go up 6-0. The Panthers got their first run of the season in the third as Noah Preur scored on a wild pitch.
The Panthers trimmed the Lynx's lead to two in the fourth inning. Owens' triple drove in the first two runs of the inning. Cody Zinser followed with an RBI single to make it 6-4.
Rhodes came back with three runs in its half of the fourth and another in the fifth to build a 10-4 lead. Smigelski's home run to left in the sixth accounted for LC's final run.
The Panthers take on Centenary on Saturday at 11 a.m.
