LC Women's Basketball away this weekend for pair of conference matchups

LAGRANGE, Ga. - LC Women's Basketball (10-8, 4-5 Collegiate Conference of the South) heads north this weekend (Feb. 7-8) to take on Asbury University (12-7, 9-1 CCS) and Maryville College (7-12, 6-4 CCS) for a pair of conference collisions.

The Matchups
LC comes into the weekend riding high off a 34-point win over Wesleyan College this past Tuesday (Feb. 4), earning their 10th win of the season. The win also marked Coach Destiny Lane-Frazier's first 10-win season since taking over for the Panthers in July of 2024. "While I'm proud of this achievement, my focus remains on continuing to build, improve and push for even more success with this team," Frazier noted after her team's win. The Panthers will certainly look to build on the milestone as they aim to avenge their loss to Asbury from earlier in the year as well as fend off a Maryville squad with similar intentions late in the regular season.

Winners of nine-straight, the Eagles bested LaGrange back on Jan. 18 in a game that came down to the final minutes as AU escaped Mariotti Gym with the four-point victory. Asbury sits among the top four in the CCS in both offense and defense, scoring 70.4 points per game and allowing just under that at 63.5 points per game.

As for the Scots, they will have the opportunity to bounce back from a tough 67-52 loss to Piedmont University in a home tilt on Friday against Huntingdon College before hosting LC the following day. Scoring only 59.6 points per game, Maryville will have to rely on their CCS-leading defense, allowing only 61.1 points per game as of Feb. 6.

Players to Watch
Zyhia Johnson led LC with 14 points in the last matchup with Asbury, as well as 12 points against Maryville back on Jan. 17. A similar showing this weekend could ensure victory for the Panthers as they look to close out the final seven games strong heading into the postseason.

A huge threat at the baseline, Haleigh Releford will be a top target for Asbury on Friday as she looks to control the possession arrow for her squad. She currently leads the team with 97 rebounds (79 defensive) on the year so far.

The Scots will look to Ella Tharpe on Saturday to create havoc against LaGrange. One of the team's top-scorers with 158 points this season, the sophomore out of Knoxville, Tenn leads the team with 34 steals.

Where to Watch
The contests this weekend are scheduled for respective tipoff times of 4 p.m. and 2 p.m. Friday's game will be held at Asbury University's Luce Center Gym, while Saturday's game is set to take place inside the Cooper Athletic Center at Maryville College. For links to stream each game and live stats, click here.
