LC picks up non-conference win over Pensacola Christian in back-and-forth affair

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College Men's Basketball Team (6-15) took down the Eagles of Pensacola Christian (10-12) on Tuesday night (Feb. 4) in a back-and-forth contest by a final of 86-76. This was the final game of a five-game homestand at Historic Mariotti Gymnasium for the Panthers, where they won two and lost three.

Game Recap
LC started off hot, opening in the first five minutes with an eight-point lead. Kameron McCall led with four early points and key tempo to help the Panthers garner an early lead. That extended to 12 around the halfway mark of the first period, with a stifling LaGrange defense holding the Eagles to less than 20% from the floor through nine and a half minutes. The Panthers opened the lead to 17, but an Eagles run and cold LC shooting cut their lead to six at the final media timeout. Pensacola took the momentum into halftime, cutting the lead to two as both teams headed for the locker rooms. McCall led LC throughout the half, scoring 10 points and adding in four steals, two rebounds and two assists, respectively.

The Panthers started out hot yet again in the second period, ballooning their lead to 14 just eight minutes into the half. PCC rebounding and three-point shooting cut into the lead at the second media timeout. The Eagles kept their hot shooting going, trimming the lead to two with 9:41 remaining. Sophomore Samuel Moss started to heat up for the Panthers, making two three's and delivering a beautiful assist on a Kani Rashied-Henry slam to open the Panther lead to eight with just 7:55 remaining in the contest. LC once again gained a huge lead, with a double-dose of Tyler Harrington from behind the arc pushing the Panther lead to 17 with just four minutes remaining at Mariotti. The Panthers held on from there, securing a 10-point victory with clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch to secure win number six on the season.

While the game was close throughout, the Eagles never led, with LaGrange leading for all but fifteen seconds of the contest at Historic Mariotti Gymnasium. It was a team effort, with nine guys scoring, eight of them with more than five points. While no one reached double figures, the Panthers had six with more than five rebounds, including junior Brodie Scott who led with eight. The dressing on top was the defense, forcing Pensacola Christian into 15 turnovers, garnering 11 steals and five blocks in a huge out-of-conference victory for LC.
