LaGrange splits doubleheader with No. 3 Endicott

LaGRANGE, Ga. - LaGrange (4-4) split a doubleheader with No. 3 Endicott (1-1) on Saturday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers took the first game 12-3, before the Gulls gained a split with a 15-6 13-inning marathon win in the second game.

Game 1- Josiah Chiesa (2-0) six hitless innings on the mound. Chiesa walked four and struck out five. He pitched out of bases loaded jams in the third and fourth innings. 

The Panthers had 15 hits in the game. Jorge Fragoso went 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring three runs and driving in two runs. Curt Bonner had three hits, including a triple, and scored three runs. Riley George had two hits and three RBIs. 

Leading 1-0, the Panthers broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning. Noah Preuer and David Smigelski each had two-RBI singles in the inning.

LC built a 12-0 lead with three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth. Adam Dorn had a two-run triple in the fifth inning.

Game 2-  The Panthers led 5-2 after seven innings, only to have the Gulls force extra innings with two runs in the eighth and another in the ninth.

LC's best scoring chance came in the 12th inning. Fragoso led off the inning with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Ben Hollenbeck. Hollenbeck moved into scoring position on Collin Jones' sacrifice bunt. The threat ended as Preuer's line drive to right was turned into an inning-ending double play.

Endicott exploded for 10 runs in the top of the 13th to go up 15-5. The Gulls sent 16 batters to the plate in the inning. Curt Bonner had an RBI single for LC in the bottom of the inning for the 15-6 final score.

Bonner's long solo home run to left center in the second inning opened the scoring for the Panthers. Preuer and Dorn had RBI singles in the fifth inning. Dorn's double in the seventh put LC up 5-2. He finished with four hits in the game.

Eduardo Peralta started on the mound for the Panthers. He allowed two unearned runs in seven innings, striking out eight and walking four. Nick Morgan (0-2) took the loss, surrendering two runs in five innings. 

Up Next: The two teams conclude their three-game series Sunday. Game time is 12 p.m.
