LC Women's Basketball fends off late comeback push in win over Agnes Scott

DECATUR, Ga. - Panther Women's Basketball (13-11, 7-8 Collegiate Conference of the South) wrapped up their away regular season schedule in the win column Thursday night (Feb. 20), besting the Agnes Scott Scotties (3-21, 2-13 CCS) by a final score of 81-79 from the Woodruff Athletic Center.

Game Summary
Amya Walker got the ball rolling for LaGrange with a pair of baskets to open the scoring in the first two minutes of play. The Panthers were hot from behind the arc in the first quarter, draining five three's as they led 25-22 at the end of one.

The Scotties were full of fight on this particular evening, starting the second frame by bringing the game within two in the first 45 seconds of the quarter. LC stayed true to their game, however, scoring with great consistency to dismantle the hosts comeback bid momentarily as they led 42-39 at the half.

The Panthers played keep away for a majority of the third quarter, as Agnes Scott continued to stay within arms reach. LC remained all the more composed as they continued to find the basket in many different ways to ensure their lead remained.

The Scotties eventually tied the contest, knotting things up at 67-apiece with just over 5:30 remaining in the game. LaGrange refused to fold under the enormous pressure that Agnes Scott had applied up to that point, reextending the lead to as much as five with just a couple minutes left. Kenzie England's clutch three-point free throw trip with 0:26 left effectively iced the game as LC would stave off the feisty Scotties and hold on to win 81-79.

Panthers of the Game
Amya Walker's solid overall game proved to be crucial down the stretch for LC, as the Newnan, Ga native captured seven rebounds and scored 12 points in the process.

Zyhia Johnson's double-double performance also played a major role in the Panthers' win, leading the team with 21 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists on the night.
