LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LC Women's Basketball Team (11-11, 5-8 Collegiate Conference of the South) fell on Saturday (Feb. 15) to the Lions of Piedmont (17-7, 13-2 CCS) by a score of 86-75. Game Summary
LaGrange started off hot in quarter number one on both sides of the court. Stifling LC defense held the Lions to just 12 points on 28.7% shooting, as well as forcing many frustrating turnovers. A
Kendra Roberts three at the end of the ten-minute period pushed the Panthers to a five-point lead.
The second quarter was, unlike the first quarter, a mighty struggle for LC. The Panthers were up by seven a minute into the second frame, but the Lions pulled off a 21-2 run over the next five minutes of game time, including 16 unanswered points. After the run, LaGrange had some work to do, as they trailed by 11 at the break.
The second half was much of the same, with Piedmont having seized the momentum in the late run. The Lions kept extending the lead, as solid offensive play kept the Panthers from making a run. LC hung tough and cut the lead thanks to great defensive play, pushing it back down to 10 with just four minutes to go. Piedmont was able to limit turnovers and held on to reclaim first place in the Collegiate Conference of the South standings.
Panther of the Game
Hope Harrell shined for the Panthers in just her second-career game in the red and black. Held back by injury for most of the year, Harrell was a full-go on Saturday. The Trinity, Al native scored 13 points and notched three rebounds to help LaGrange identify a solid paint presence. Look for her involvement in the future as LC enters the home stretch of the season.
