LAGRANGE, Ga. - It was a Valentine's Day to remember for LC Panther Softball (1-3), as they notched their first win of the 2025 season on Friday (Feb. 14), downing the Tigers of Sewanee in the second game of a doubleheader by a final score of 9-4. The victory came after the Panthers had narrowly lost the first game in a 4-1 defensive battle.
Game One Summary
The first contest was an all out pitchers' duel between Sewanee's Reagen Huskey and
Claire Chamberlain of LC, who each threw respective shutouts through the first three innings of play. Chamberlain dominated her pitching counterpart at the plate, however, knocking a pair of hits and scoring as a runner in the seventh. Huskey on the other hand saw an abysmal 0-4 performance as she left two runners on base. Unfortunately for LaGrange, a few baserunning mistakes early costed them the runs necessary to keep pace with the Tigers, who tallied four in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to win 4-1.
Game Two Summary
The second tilt was all LaGrange, as they racked up 13 hits in a nine-run offensive showcase. After winning game one, it seemed as if the Tigers had LC's number early in the contest, scoring three in the top half of the first to take a 3-0 lead. Panther pitcher
Jenna Yeary would settle in after that, however, allowing just one run in the final six innings in a three-strikeout win for the junior from Loganville, Ga. As for the Red and Black bats, they had no trouble at all making hay against three different Tiger pitchers, who could not seem to find an answer for the fiery Panthers who felt like they had held back from their true potential earlier in the day in game one.
Alexa Gonzalez led the charge for LC, going 3-for-4 with three hits and an RBI to her credit as the Panthers won 9-4.
Panthers of the Game
Yeary picked up the win for LC in game two, allowing only four runs against 29 at-bats and striking out three in the process. With a WHIP of 1.14, the Walnut Grove High School product allowed zero walks for a dominant day in the pitcher's circle.
Jaselyn Couch earned LC's conference Rookie of the Week nomination, going 4-for-6 in both games with two runs scored and an RBI. She also had 3 put-outs, an assist and an errorless performance in both games in left field.
