LAGRANGE, Ga. - LaGrange hammered No. 20 Adrian 13-2 on Saturday in the LaGrange College Classic at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers, with their second straight win, are now 2-3. Adrian dropped to 1-1.
The Panthers banged out 14 hits and got strong starting pitching from freshman
Josiah Chiesa. Chiesa (1-0) went five innings, allowing two runs, only one was earned. He walked four and struck out seven.
Fletcher Hislop had three hits, including two doubles, scored three runs and drove in a run.
Riley George,
Jorge Fragoso, and
Adam Dorn each had two hits. George and Fragoso each had a double. Collin Jones had a triple and three RBIs.
Dorn's RBI single in top of the first inning gave the Panthers a quick 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs came back in their half of the inning with two runs to retake the lead. Chiesa, along with relievers
Logan Willis and
Evan Jackson shut Adrian out over the final eight innings.
LC tied the game in the second on
Noah Preuer's sacrifice fly, scoring Hislop. The Panthers took the lead for good in the fourth as Hislop came home on Jones' sacrifice fly.
The Panthers broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning to go up 7-2. Hislop had an RBI double and
Colby Zinser a run-scoring single in the inning.
LaGrange added three runs in the seventh to build a 10-2 lead. Jones' two-run triple highlighted the inning. The Panthers added a run in the eighth on
David Smigelski's RBI single and closed out the scoring with two runs in the ninth.
The Panthers face Berry on Sunday at 3 p.m. to close out the LaGrange College Classic.
