LaGrange downs Berry 9-2 to cap perfect weekend at LaGrange College Classic

LaGRANGE, Ga. - LaGrange downed Berry 9-2 in the final game of the LaGrange College Classic on Sunday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The win capped a perfect 3-0 weekend for the Panthers (3-3), with wins over No. 20 Adrian and the one over Berry, who was receiving votes in the NCAA Division III Top 25 poll.

The Panthers got timely hitting, strong pitching, and played error less baseball in the field. Noah Preuer led the hitting, going 4-for-5, scoring two runs and driving in two more. On the mound Keller Morey (1-0) started and allowed a run in four innings. Caden Hare gave up a run in three innings, while Nick Morgan threw two scoreless innings to close out the game. On the field, the Panthers turned two double plays and David Smigelski threw out two would-be base stealers.

The Panthers and the Vikings swapped runs in the first innings. Fletcher Hislop had an RBI single to drive in the Panthers' first run. Hislop finished with three hits, scored a run, and two RBIs. He finished the weekend 8-for-14 with four runs scored, and three RBIs.

LC took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning. Preuer's RBI single brought home the first run of the inning. Riley George's sacrifice fly made it 3-1.

The Panthers padded their lead with two more runs in the fourth. Preuer once again had a run-scoring single. He came around to score as George reached on an error.

LaGrange put the game out of reach with a four-run eighth inning. Hislop and Colby Zinser had RBI singles in the inning. Curt Bonner and Jorge Fragoso reached on back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to force in the final two runs of the inning.

The Panthers host third-ranked Endicott (Mass.) next weekend, starting with a double header Saturday. The Gulls were 47-4 last season, and return two pre-season All-America pitchers.
