Panthers pick up much-needed win at home Tuesday over Agnes Scott

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College Women's Basketball Team (11-10, 5-7 Collegiate Conference of the South) notched a big win at home Tuesday night (Feb. 11), besting the Scotties of Agnes Scott College (2-18, 1-10 CCS) by a final score of 63-57 from Mariotti Gym. The win was made possible by two season-high performances from seniors Britney Chavez (20 points) and Zyhia Johnson (28 points), who combined for 48 points in the winning effort.

Game Summary
Both teams started the game slow offensively, as the two battled for position early in the contest, deadlocked at seven-apiece through the first five minutes of play. The Panthers only shot 4/20 from the field, good for 20% as they trailed 12-11 at the end of the first quarter.

LC's shooting improved drastically in the second quarter, starting the period with back-to-back three's to go in front by five. After the Scotties stole the lead late in the quarter, LaGrange reestablished their rhythm to jump back in front 32-31 at the half.

The teams' back-and-forth battle continued in the second half, as the Scotties refused to roll over. The Panthers finally found some semblance of distance from the visiting Agnes Scott at the end of the third as they led by seven heading into the final frame up 54-47.

LaGrange put their foot on the gas to start the fourth quarter, extending their advantage to 10 points with 6:45 left in the contest. Looking to manage the game from there on out, the Panthers allowed Agnes Scott to bring the game back within arms reach as they led by only five in the final minute of action. Clutch baskets would ensure the Red and Black's victory as time ran out on the Scotties and LaGrange tasted victory once again.

Panthers of the Game
Zyhia Johnson led the scoring production for LC, with a season-high 28 points. The Homerville, Ga native also tallied eight rebounds and four steals, respectively, in the effort as well.
