Women’s Hoops Holds Off Petrels for Fourth Straight

ATLANTA, Ga. – The LaGrange College women's basketball team won their fourth consecutive game with a 72-69 victory at Oglethorpe University in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Dorough Field House in Atlanta, Georgia. After dropping their first two games of the season, the Panthers go into the Thanksgiving break with four consecutive wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Up 35-31 at halftime, the Panthers used that momentum to build their lead up to double-digits in the opening minutes of the third quarter with LaGrange senior guard Laila Battle (Smyrna, Ga.) making back-to-back baskets to go ahead 48-38 with 4:23 remaining in the frame. Despite a late run by the Petrels in the closing seconds of the game, LaGrange freshman guard Adazhah Burrell (Melbourne, Fla.) buried two free throws with 18 seconds to help close out the game as a heave at the buzzer came up just short.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Battle led the Panthers with 20 points and four rebounds while feasting at the line, going 7-of-8.
  • Oglethorpe freshman guard Marlie Battle (Smyrna, Ga.) led the Petrels with 24 points, five rebounds and two steals.
  • LaGrange senior guard Amanda Mclendon (Orlando, Fla.) posted a double-double with 17 points, ten rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
  • Burrell added 11 points with five rebounds while freshman guard Deasia Stinson (Newnan, Ga.) finished with 10 points and five boards.
  • Oglethorpe senior forward Keimarya Rivera (Canton, Ga.) had 22 points and six rebounds for the Petrels.
  • Free-throw shooting was decisive, as the Panthers shot 73.3 percent (22-of-30) compared to 65.2 percent (15-of-23) for the Petrels.

  • LaGrange is back on the court on Wednesday, December 3rd when they travel to Emory University for a 6:00 p.m. game.
