LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College women's basketball team opened their 2025-2026 season with a 56-51 loss to visiting Oglethorpe University in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at the Mariotti Gymnasium in LaGrange, Georgia.
THE BASICS
Score: Oglethorpe 56, LaGrange 51
Records: Panthers 0-1, 0-0 CCS | Petrels 2-0, 0-0 SAA
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 7-2 early on, the Panthers closed out the first quarter on an 8-0 run capped off with a steal and a fastbreak layup from senior guard Laila Battle (Smyrna, Ga.). The Petrels dominated the second quarter, however, opening the stanza with a 15-3 run and taking a 27-19 lead into halftime.
- Trailing throughout the second half, LaGrange was down 54-41 with 1:54 when Battle was fouled on a basket, then completed the three-point play. That would start an 8-1 rally, capped off with a three from Battle with 58 seconds left to pull them to within six. But a missed layup on their next possession would allow the Petrels to play out the clock as the rally came up just short.
