Women’s Volleyball Shuts Down Wesleyan; Honors Seniors

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College women's volleyball team split their Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) tri-match on Saturday at the Mariotti Gymnasium in LaGrange, Georgia, going 0-3 against the conference top-seeded Eagles of Asbury College before sweeping the Wolves of Wesleyan College in the nightcap to close out the CCS schedule. The Panthers of LaGrange run their season record to 12-18 with a 10-6 mark in the conference standings, all but clinching the fourth-seed in the upcoming CCS playoffs.

ASBURY 3, LAGRANGE 0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-23)
  • Down two sets to none in the third set, the Panthers very nearly stole the set from the Eagles, storming out of the gate to take a 7-2 lead. Asbury, the number one seed in the CCS standings, stormed back, taking a 23-22 lead before LaGrange freshman outside hitter Alex Krabs (Boynton Beach, Fla.) put down a kill to tie it late. But the Eagles would close out behind a service error and a kill by Asbury sophomore middle blocker Abigail Bruner (Nicholasville, Ky.) to closed out the match.
  • Krabs hit .212 with 15 kills and five digs to lead the Panthers while sophomore setter Julia Damico (North Port, Fla.) posted 20 set assists with 11 digs, both team highs.
  • LaGrange freshman outside hitter Jasmine Gross (Antioch, Tenn.) hit .357 with six kills.
WESLEYAN 0, LAGRANGE 3 (25-9, 25-17, 25-3)
  • The Panthers dominated the Wolves, reeling off a season-high 19 service aces over just three sets. LaGrange also hit a season-best .386 against Wesleyan in the sweep.
  • Playing in the final regular-season home match of her career senior middle-hitter Zentrina Choice (Sumter, S.C.) posted her best performance ever against the Wolves, racking up 15 kills on just 18 attempts for a dominating .778 kill percentage. Choice also added two aces and a pair of block assists.
  • Damico, last week's CCS Defensive Player of the Week, added 22 kills with four aces.
  • LaGrange freshman right-side hitter Emerson Melvin (Hahira, Ga.) had a breakout match with six service aces.
  • Freshman outside hitter Danika Durham (Parker, Ariz.) added five kills while sophomore libero Isabella Zentkovich (Sharpsburg, Ga.) posted five aces and 13 digs.
SENIOR DAY
  • Prior to the start of the Wesleyan match, the LaGrange senior trio of Choice, right-side hitter Meredith Orton (Cartersville, Ga.) and defensive specialist Madelyn Orton (Cartersville, Ga.) were honored as part of senior day. Each of these three young women have given their all not only on the court, but to the entire LaGrange community as a whole. Although their time on the team may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the Panther family.
UP NEXT
  • LaGrange is back on the court on Saturday when they travel to Oglethorpe University for a 12:00 p.m. match in their final tune-up before the postseason.
