DEMOREST, Ga. -- The LaGrange College women's volleyball team split two matches at the Piedmont University Tri-Match in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) action on Saturday at the Cave Arena in Demorest, Georgia. The Panthers lost a five-set heart-breaker to Covenant College before sweeping the host Lions. LaGrange runs their record to 6-14 on the season with a 4-2 record in CCS play.
LAGRANGE 2, COVENANT 3 (25-12, 17-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-9)
- Tied at a set apiece going into the third set, the bout was hotly contested as the Panthers tied it up at 21-21 off a service error by the Scots, then later pulled to within one off a kill from LaGrange senior middle-hitter Zentrina Choice (Sumter, S.C.). But Covenant held on, closing it out 25-23. Down 18-17 in the fourth, the Panthers would roar back, winning eight of the final nine rallies, with four of those coming off the serve of LaGrange sophomore libero Isabella Zentkovich (Sharpsburg, Ga.). Knotted two sets, the Panthers took a 6-5 lead in the fifth off a kill from sophomore setter Julia Damico (North Port, Fla.). But Covenant would dominate down the stretch, as the LC was unable to hold on.
- LaGrange freshman outside hitter Alex Krabs (Boynton Beach, Fla.) carried the Panthers with 16 kills and 17 digs, both team-highs.
- Damico added 27 set assists and 13 digs.
LAGRANGE 3, PIEDMONT 0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-22)
- The Panthers played one of their cleanest matches of the season. LaGrange freshman outside hitter Jasmine Gross (Antioch, Tenn.) hit .444 with eight kills, six total blocks and 12 digs.
- Sophomore setter Rebecca Miranda (Snellville, Ga.) posted 13 set assists and 15 digs while Krabs added nine kills. Sophomore libero Emma Campbell (Killen, Ala.) posted four service aces and seven digs.
- Damico added 19 set assists and eleven digs.
