Damico Hits 1K Assists as Women’s Volleyball Beats Piedmont

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The LaGrange College women's volleyball team split at their Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Tri-match hosted by Covenant College on Saturday at the Barnes Center, falling to the host Scots in a hard-fought five setter before rebounding to defeat the Lions of Piedmont University in four. The Panthers run their overall record to 11-17 with a 9-5 mark in CCS play, moving one step closer to clinching the fourth seed in the upcoming conference championship tournament.

LAGRANGE 2, COVENANT 3 (24-26, 25-13, 18-25, 25-21, 15-9)
  • LaGrange sophomore setter Julia Damico (North Port, Fla.) carried the Panthers against the Scots, tallying team-highs of 24 set assists and 20 digs with four kills.
  • Freshman outside hitter Jasmine Gross (Antioch, Tenn.) had 10 kills with 11 digs for the Panthers while freshman outside hitter Alex Krabs (Boynton Beach, Fla.) added nine kills with 17 digs.
  • Senior middle-hitter Zentrina Choice (Sumter, S.C.) was a force with six kills, two aces and two solo blocks.
LAGRANGE 3, PIEDMONT 1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-23)
  • After falling just short in the first set against the Lions, the Panthers pounced in the next two, easily pulling away from Piedmont down the stretch. Down 11-5 in the fourth set and later trailing 22-21, a kill by Gross and a service ace by sophomore libero Isabella Zentkovich (Sharpsburg, Ga.) helped pull LaGrange ahead and a kill by freshman middle-blocker Kaitlyn Smith (Buckeye, Ariz.) finished off the Lions on match point.
  • During the first set with the score tied at 8-8, Damico posted a set that was finished off by Choice. The set assist gave Damico 1000 career assists in just her second season with the Panthers, becoming the first LaGrange player to reach that milestone since former LC great Lauren Sanders (Class of 2019). Damico would finish the match with 30 set assists with three aces and a team-high 23 digs.
  • Krabs dominated the Lions with 19 kills and 15 digs while Smith posted a match-high .625 kill percentage with ten kills and four solo blocks.
  • LaGrange sophomore libero Emma Campbell (Killen, Ala.) finished with 21 digs while sophomore setter Rebecca Miranda (Snellville, Ga.) added 21 assists.
