Panthers to face off with Covenant in conference bout on the road

LAGRANGE, Ga. - Panther Women's Basketball (8-3, 2-0 Collegiate Conference of the South) continues their road trip this week as they head to Lookout Mountain, Ga Thursday (Jan. 9) to take on the Scots of Covenant College (6-4, 2-0 CCS) in a battle of unbeaten-in-conference foes.

The Matchup
The Panthers are coming off a big win over CCS-leading Belhaven University on Tuesday (Jan. 7), fending off the Blazers' late comeback attempt to win in a tight 72-71 final. LaGrange has the conference's best offensive team so far this season, scoring 868 points (78.9 points per game) with a +19.1 point differential average. Winning seven of the last eight contests, the Panthers will look to continue their streak of dominance over a Scots team who has struggled against LC over the last few years, losing nine straight matchups between the two teams. No doubt LaGrange will look to make it 10 straight for the red and black come Thursday evening.

As for the Scots, they have put together a relatively large bounce-back performance over the last couple weeks after starting the season 2-4. Covenant currently sits in the middle of the conference in most statistical categories, scoring 63.7 points per game and allowing only 61.3 points per game by opponents. With four straight wins over the likes of Bob Jones University, Agnes Scott and Wesleyan College, the Scots would like nothing more than to remain unbeaten in CCS play as they look to upset the red hot Panthers on Thursday.

Players to Watch
Zyhia Johnson will be a key factor for the Panthers' offensive efforts on Thursday. The senior guard out of Homerville, Ga currently leads the team with 193 points (17.5 per game), good for second-best in the CCS.

The Scots will look to their workhorse Breezy Savage, who has tallied 316 minutes on the court so far this season. The senior guard from Greenville, Tennessee leads the team with 37 steals and 139 points (13.9 per game) in the 2024-25 campaign.
