LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College Women's Basketball Team (7-3, 1-0 Collegiate Conference of the South) hits the road this week to take on Belhaven University (6-5, 3-0 CCS) in Jackson, Mississippi Tuesday (Jan. 7) in a much-anticipated conference matchup.
The Matchup
The Panthers enter this game riding the highs of a big win over rival Huntingdon College this past weekend, a game which they controlled for a majority of the contest in an 86-74 final from Montgomery, Al. LC will look to avenge their season-ending loss to the Blazers from the previous year. After winning both games by a combined 29 points in the regular season, the Panthers were unable to take the final installment of the season's trilogy as Belhaven delivered LaGrange a heartbreaking 80-74 loss in the CCS Championship Semifinals.
As for the Blazers, they have seen their fair share of struggles early in the season, barely staying afloat above .500 at 6-5. Despite a less-than-impressive overall record, they sit atop the conference standings with an unbeaten record of 3-0, picking up big wins over Wesleyan in back-to-back games as well as a 76-34 drubbing of Agnes Scott. They will have their sights set on continuing the momentum of a five-game winning streak as they look to send the traveling Panthers, winners of six of the last seven, home empty-handed come Tuesday evening.

Laila Battle was one of the key contributors in the Panthers' last outing at Huntingdon, racking up 15 points, eight rebounds and five steals. The junior guard out of Smyrna, Ga leads the team with 36 steals and the most made free throws with 28, good for .824 percent.
The Blazers will look to Ebony Gayden for a high level of production on Tuesday. The graduate forward leads the team with 155 points, 88 rebounds (62 defensive) and six blocks so far to the McComb, Miss native's credit.
