Johnson collects 1,000th career point as Panther Women's Basketball falls on the road at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. - LC Women's Basketball (8-5, 2-2 Collegiate Conference of the South) fell to 2-2 in-conference Thursday night (Jan. 14) after a tough 81-65 loss on the road at Piedmont University (8-5, 4-0 CCS) at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center. Zyhia Johnson reached a career milestone in the loss, scoring her 1,000th point in three seasons with the Panthers.

Game Summary
Laila Battle got the ball rolling early for the Panther offense, sinking a three to spark an 8-4 run for the Red and Black. LC established consistency early in scoring, but were unable to prevent the Lions from taking a 14-13 lead after the first quarter of play. 

The two teams traded baskets in the second quarter, as the Panthers took a one-point game in the first five minutes. Despite the early momentum, the Panthers trailed 31-29 at the half.

Trailing by nine points early in the third quarter, the Panthers trimmed the deficit to three, 55-52, heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, the Lions pulled away late to fend off the Panthers 81-65.

Zyhia Johnson led the Panthers in the scoring with 17 points and added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
