The LaGrange College Panthers Men's Soccer Team (2-6-0) was dealt a tough loss by the Scots of Covenant College (7-2-1) Monday night (Sept. 30) in their first CCS match of the season by a final of 1-0.
Match Details
The Panthers brought it in the first half of play, outshooting the visitors 7-4. Both teams put together several promising scoring chances in the opening frame, but could not break through solid goalkeeping from
Andrew Cole (LC) and Eli Honeycutt (CC), respectively.
The second half featured much of the same, as neither squad could draw first blood from a myriad of shots with 18 combined in the second half. Just as it seemed a draw would be the ultimate fate between the two, Whitt Tisdale crushed a cross from Henry Parker in the 67th minute to give the Scots the lead late in the contest. The Panthers were not willing to go away quietly, however, earning three corner kicks and a handful of free kicks in scoring position to try and equalize the match. Despite the late rally, they could not prevail on the scoresheet as Covenant walked away with the 1-0 victory.
Top Panther Performers
Lucas Duke led the team offensively with three shots on goal in 61 minutes played.
Andrew Cole finished the game with eight saves on the day for the Panthers.
