The LaGrange College Panthers Women's Volleyball Team were handed their second loss of the season Wednesday night (Sept. 11) when they faced off with Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA, losing the match 3-1.
Set One
The Panthers of CAU started the game firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a quick 12-4 lead in the process. After a timeout, LaGrange was able to make their way back into the set, going on a 10-6 run to bring things back within a much more manageable 14–18 score. Thanks to a handful of clutch kills, however, CAU was able to hold on to win the first set 25-20.
Set Two Â
Both squads came out in the second set with a purpose, trading blow for blow for a tight 11-10 score in favor of LaGrange. The visiting Panthers soon found their rhythm and took control of the set with a chance to put CAU away with a 23-16 advantage. Unwilling to hand over an easy victory, the host Panthers were nearly able to claw their way back into a winning position, but were ultimately outlasted by LaGrange 25-21 to knot things up at one set apiece.
Set Three
CAU responded with an impressive showing in the third set, keeping LaGrange at bay for a majority of the frame. Despite a late LC rally in which they came within two points of tying the set at 24 each, CAU was able to punch home the final point and take the third set with a 25-22 victory.
Set Four
With the match on the line, the LaGrange Panthers put together a gutsy effort to force a fifth set, but were ultimately denied by clutch defensive play from Clark Atlanta as the home Panthers edged the visitors 25-17 and walked away with the 3-1 victory.
