With the holiday season in full swing, several LaGrange College Student-Athletes took the chance to give back to their community Monday night (Dec. 2), serving at Wellstar's Enoch Callaway Cancer Survivor Christmas Party.
The event was held at the Oakfuskee Conservation Center in LaGrange, Ga with student-athletes from cheer, football, lacrosse, softball, volleyball and women's soccer serving as volunteers.
"It was a rewarding experience to be able to serve the people in the community who need it the most." noted women's soccer goalkeeper Cassidy Abbott. "My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor, so I enjoyed being able to serve other survivors."
Assistant AD Megan shared her gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of such a meaningful event, stating that it was "inspiring to see our SAAC representatives and other student-athletes give so much of themselves in service to the community. Watching them work together, not only showcasing their dedication to making the event special for the survivors, was truly heartwarming. Their hard work and commitment made a real difference, and I couldn't be more proud of their involvement."
Held yearly by Wellstar, the Enoch Callaway Cancer Survivor Christmas Party serves as an opportunity for community members to collaborate to offer a distinct sense of belonging and camaraderie to local cancer survivors, as well as commemorate those lost and continuing the fight. Whether in or out of season, LaGrange College Athletics continues to be proudly represented in such community efforts by athletes who continue to make a proven impact on and off their respective fields in order to hold true the values of community engagement.
