LaGrange Athletics for Weekend of February 27th – March 1st

LAGRANGE, Ga. – LaGrange College athletics looks forward to an eventful weekend from February 27th to March 1st, both at home and on the road.

Women's Basketball
The LaGrange College women's basketball team will have a chance to play for the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Championship on Friday and Saturday. With their 14-2 record in league play, the Panthers secured the number one overall seed in the CCS playoffs, and to go with it a first-round bye into the semifinals and home-court advantage for the tournament. Number one seeded LaGrange will play host to the fourth-seeded Lions of Piedmont University on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Mariotti Gymnasium in LaGrange. The Panthers will be led by senior guard Laila Battle, who earlier this week was voted the CCS Player of the Year and CCS Defensive Player of the Year. Battle was joined by senior power forward Amanda Mclendon and freshman guard Adazhah Burrell in earning CCS All-Conference honors.

Should LaGrange prevail on Friday over Piedmont, they will play in the CCS Championship Finals on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Mariotti where they will play host to the winner of the Asbury-Belhaven semifinals.

Men's Basketball

The LaGrange College men's basketball team won 91-80 over visiting Asbury University in the CCS Quarterfinals on Tuesday, advancing to the CCS Semifinals.

Junior guard Austen Colton finished with 19 points and six assists, burying five three-pointers from behind the arc. Senior forward Trenton Dillard matched a career-high with 16 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Devin Dowell finished with 15 points, five rebounds and two steals. Senior guard Micah McAllister scored the Panthers' first six points of the game, finishing with 12 points and seven boards. Sophomore forward Kani Rashied-Henry finished with nine points and eight rebounds with two blocks. Rashied-Henry's block total for the season currently ranks third all-time in LaGrange.

The Panthers will travel to Maryville College on Friday evening for a 7:00 p.m. game against the top-seeded host Scotties.

Baseball

The LaGrange College baseball team picked up an impressive win last Sunday when they prevailed 7-4 over visiting Endicott College, at the time ranked the number two team in the nation in the national rankings. The Panthers then beat Mississippi University for Women 15-9 in the nightcap, running their season record to 6-3. The Panthers travel to NC Wesleyan this weekend for a trio of games against the host Bishops. Freshman second baseman Collin McGhee has been an early standout, winning two of three CCS Rookie of the Week awards. Senior first baseman Colin Jones has provided the power with six doubles, one home run and a team-high 16 RBI.

Softball

The LaGrange College softball team opened their season this past week with a pair of double-headers against two of the toughest teams in the region in Emory University and Berry College. Despite coming away winless, the Panthers had a number of bright spots including Claire Chamberlain who hit .417 with five hits and a double. Junior Hannah Barnett and freshman Addison Gibboney both hit .375 for the week. The Panthers travel to Sewanee on Friday and Maryville on Saturday for two more double-headers.

Men's Lacrosse

The LaGrange College men's lacrosse team hosts Point University at Callaway Stadium on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in their home opener. Nicholas Murciano leads the Panthers with seven goals in two games while Tyler Abrams has three goals and three assists.

Men's & Women's Tennis

The LaGrange College men's and women's tennis teams travel to Huntingdon College on Friday and then travel to Coastal Alabama Community College - North on Sunday in a pair of matches this weekend.

Women's Beach Volleyball

The LaGrange College women's beach volleyball team went 0-4 at the Huntingdon College Tournament this past weekend, but will look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to the Badger Beach Bash hosted by Spring Hill College.

Women's Flag Football

The LaGrange College flag football team came up just short against Cumberland University on Saturday in an 12-8 loss at the Huntingdon College Tri-Match. The Panthers are back on the field this Saturday when they travel to Point University for a 3:00 p.m. game.
