Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Danny Talbert

LC Basketball flies by Owls en route 89-56 road win

The Panthers Men's Basketball Team secured a dominant 89-56 road win over Warren Wilson College tonight (Dec. 11) highlighted by 19 team steals (most since 2003). This victory improved the LC season record to 3-5.

Game Details

LC initiated the game with a display of decisive ball movement, culminating in a three-pointer by Jace Herrell, facilitated by a pass from Kameron McCall. This opening series set the tone for the Panthers' approach to attacking the Owls, featuring precise passing and smart shots.

On defense, LaGrange opened with their trademark LC press, typically reserved for later moments in a game. Five minutes in, the high-pressure style led to the Panthers creating five turnovers, one of which was a stifling eight-second violation.

Halfway through the first, LaGrange held a 19-10 advantage with Devin Dowell posting a team-high five points.

The Panthers maintained control in the latter part of the opening half, with turnovers being a key factor in their favor. 17 of the opening 27 LaGrange points were off of the 11 Owl turnovers (eight LC steals). It was not one or two Panthers causing this havoc either; six different players had recorded a steal with over five minutes to go before the break.

At the half, LC held a commanding 41-24 lead with freshman guard Tyler Harrington tallying a team-high nine points shooting 50% from the field. Harrington knocked down seven of his points on an explosive final five minute push. The team finished with 10 steals, which is .7 more than the game average this season prior to tonight.

The second half continued with LaGrange defense leading to scoring. Before the Owls could settle in, a set of Panther hands would be clawing to grab the ball. The LaGrange defense was stellar, but it was not the sole highlight of their game against WC. Whether it was layups, jumpers, dunks or three-pointers, the Panthers were hitting them.

At the 11-minute mark LC led 62-39 and remained relentless.

Continuing to lead the pack was Tyler Harrington tonight. Showcasing his consistency, the guard knocked down a pair of threes midway through the half to give LC a 76-46 advantage.

With nine minutes remaining in the game, Kani Rashied-Henry recorded the team's 17th steal, breaking last year's record of 16 (most since 2014-15 season).

LC finished out the road win attacking the rim with a combination of Panthers. From freshman to seniors, everyone was eating tonight. 14 different players scored en route to the Panthers winning 89-56 over Warren Wilson. Tyler Harrington led with a team-high 15 points, shooting 5-9 (57%) from field goal 3-6 (50%) from three. The team accounted for 19 steals, one less than the program's all-time record (20) set against Warren Wilson College in 2003.
