Panthers set to tip at the TownePlace Suites Classic

LC Women's Basketball heads to Atlanta, Georgia, to play in the 2024 TownePlace Suites Classic hosted by Oglethorpe University this weekend (Dec. 14-15).

The Teams

Following a 73-58 win over Point University (Dec. 4), the Panthers record now stands at 4-2. In that third straight LaGrange victory, junior forward Amanda Mclendon secured her fourth double-double after tallying a team-high 16 points and 12 rebounds. Through six games, Mclendon averages 15.2 points and a Panther-best 10.5 rebounds per game. Leading the team and the CCS with a 17.7 ppg average is sharp-shooting guard, Zyhia Johnson. The elusive playmaker continues to exploit any opponent who gives her space by sinking more than 50% of her shots from inside the arc.

LC opens the TownePlace Suites Classic against Owls of Warren Wilson College on Saturday (Dec. 14) at 2 p.m. Flying with a 0-9 record, the Owls are champing at the bit to grab their first season win against the Panthers. Averaging a team-high 14.4 ppg while shooting 34% from two-point range is senior guard Moosie Lewis. Looking at the WWC's team statistics, the Owls particularly struggle turning the ball over. Currently, they average a Coast-to-Coast Conference-high 24.9 turnovers per game, 7.1 more than LaGrange. It is worth noting that WWC will play Ferrum College prior to facing LC (Dec. 10).

After starting the season with a 63-49 win over Ecclesia College (Oct. 24), the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers find themselves on a ten game losing skid. Freshman guard Kylee Madden leads SBC with a 13 ppg average, shooting 26% from two and 30% from long-range. The Chargers typically spread the scoring across four players, each averaging 11.9 ppg or higher. Comparing the Chargers to the other two teams, Southeastern leads the group with 27.9 turnovers per game. LaGrange is set to take on SBC on Sunday (Dec. 15) at 2 p.m.
