The LaGrange College Men's Basketball Team fell to 2-4 on the season Sunday afternoon (Dec. 1), as they were bested by the Battling Bishops of NC Wesleyan (4-3) by a final score of 82-69 in Mariotti Gym.
Game Details
Ky'Ron Kelly helped the Battling Bishops jump out to an early 6-0 lead with three-consecutive layups to grab momentum just two minutes into the game. The Panthers answered right back with a pair of scores from
Kameron McCall, who drained baskets of the three and two-point variety to make it a 6-5 game in favor of NC Wesleyan at the contest's onset.
Although never grabbing the lead, LaGrange trailed by only a couple scores for a majority of the first half as
Micah McAllister kept his team within reach with a couple of steals and key hustle plays to extend possessions. Unfortunately, a late burst from NC Wesleyan put them up by 11 as they enjoyed a 42-31 lead heading into halftime.
The Panthers wasted no time chipping away at the 11-point deficit, bringing it down to seven just 2:31 into the half. Unfortunately for LC, that would be as close as they would get as the Battling Bishops began to turn up the heat offensively.
Unable to overcome NC Wesleyan's consistent pressure on the boards, LaGrange struggled to secure defensive rebounds as their opponents racked up 15 second-chance points. Although much improved at the free-throw line with a percentage of 74.2, the Panthers failed to match their former conference foes' firepower with a lackluster 35.6 field goal percentage as the Battling Bishops continued to find the bucket with multiple back-door feeds en route to an 82-69 victory.
