Panthers pick up dominant season opening win

Box Score The LaGrange College Women's Basketball Team jump started the season with a commanding 104-54 road victory over Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Nov. 8). Tonight's win not only marks the Panthers' first victory but also Destiny Lane-Frazier's first as the program's head coach.

Game Details
The Panthers opened the game by grabbing a 3-0 lead thanks to a contested three-pointer knocked down by senior guard Britney Chavez. Through the first five minutes, LaGrange built a 16-9 advantage after the stout LC defense led to back-to-back Panther points. Before the Stallions of ABAC could settle in, LaGrange extended their lead to 26-14 as time expired in the first.

Both teams struggled to make their shots at the start of the second quarter. That was until senior guard Zyhia Johnson secured her first points from beyond the arc, putting the Panthers up 32-15 midway through the quarter. A few of possessions later, Johnson demonstrated her ball-handling ability, blowing by her defender to create enough space to float in an open layup. LC ended the half with a 49-27 lead.

LaGrange dominated the third quarter by using the full court press to force the Stallions into uncomfortable positions, causing the hosts to waste their possessions with turnovers. This, combined with the Panthers hitting their three's, led to LaGrange holding a 77-44 lead going into the fourth.

Forwards Amanda Mclendon and Tianna Rabsatt continued to showcase how deadly they can be as a one-two punch. Throughout the game, the pair took turns punishing the Stallions by using their size and physicality on both sides of the court. If the back-to-back Second Team All-CCS selection was not under the rim to fight for the ball, Rabsatt was often close by to do the dirty work. LC cruised through the fourth, going on to win 104-54.
